After passing on a Trailhunter a few months ago because the dealer decided to do a last minute markup, I just had the opposite happen. I put a deposit down on a Trailhunter at a local dealer that received an allocation for what I wanted. While it wasn't part of the May 15th QC holds many experienced, my vehicle did go on hold a few days after it arrived at port. About 30 days later, the hold released and it arrived.

Maybe they felt bad about the hold? We agreed on MSRP at the time I placed a deposit securing the allocation. I brought my own financing and they had no issues with that. Then the finance manager started talking about warranties and protection plans. I only had an interest in the Toyota extended warranty. I told the finance manager that I want the Toyota warranty but had received quotes online already and was hoping they could match them. They wanted $4k for the 10yr/100k mile plan and I was quoted $1,360. He said he can't even come close to that as its way under his cost. I said I understand and I'll purchase it elsewhere. Then he said something that surprised me! He said he can't discount the warranty, but he can discount the vehicle to cover the difference. I was ok with that as long as the net cost was what I planned on spending. He said he'd discount the vehicle $5,100 and the warranty would show up as $4k on the paperwork. He gave me the warranty essentially for free and I saved an additional $1,100 on the vehicle! This saved me in taxes too. I walked out of there and drove my Trailhunter home very happy.

This dealer does discount all other 4Runners on their website 3-4k depending on trim. Hybrids included. It was also the last day of the month and end of the day. While I had no plans to walk, that may have played a role in the generosity. I've bought a lot of vehicles before and have never had anyone offer such a big discount without asking.

There are a lot of crappy dealers out there and I had to give credit where it's due. Thanks to Edmark Toyota in Nampa, ID for the amazing price!

Just picked our Everest ORP from Edmark last Saturday. They are the best. Ordered it middle of June and gave me 1k off msrp and I never even asked for it.

Interesting they gave you 5k off to sell the warranty that you could cancel right now for a full refund and then go purchase from someone else for $1,300...

Sadly, you can't do that anymore. Toyota put restrictions in place where you can't cancel a plan and buy again from another dealer. They want to protect the original dealer making the sale. When you get quotes from people like FD-Warranty, they warn you about this.

In either case, I'm super happy with my experience at Edmark Toyota. For those in the area, I think they are trying to out compete Peterson in Boise who's the largest volume Toyota dealer in Idaho. Having worked with both while trying to find an allocation, I can say that Edmark is more customer focused while Peterson has rigid policies that might not fit everyone.

I am not even in the area. I drove 6 hours to purchase from them and I will do it again.
