just a note for people that have the rear door set to open fully.

if the top of the channel forms any ice in the middle from snow melt/freeze, just note that the door top leading edge will hit the ice that accumulates in the channel.

i had a big chunk of ice form and the when i let the rear door fully open, it crunched that ice pretty dam hard to the point i thought the door was cracking. its the last 1/4 inch of rotation on the door pivot that really had to struggle on opening.

i didnt see any paint breakage but i am really concerned about this. never had this issue on my 5th gen limited.

will have to see about adjusting the door opening to not fully open.

Door channels on these things are horrible, even for just rain. Haven't had it crunch ice but I adjusted mine last summer so it wouldn't hit my kayaks on the roof. Did get more than one face full of snow from opening it tho'.

mine crunched ice for just over two straight weeks in a January cold snap with a bunch of snowfalls here. the first time it happened with the 6th gen it kind of worried me but it's not new to me. it is unsettling to think of how much pressure is being applied to a few contact points in very cold weather.

i did have this occasionally in my 5th gen, in similar weather conditions, but not this bad. i got used to brushing snow off the rear 'seam' at every storm, no matter how much snowfall we got, but the ice or snow pack still does accumulate. i continued doing this brushing approach with the 6th gen, but the 6th gen design seems more prone to it than the 5th gen. outside of pouring hot water on that seam while closed, i am not sure there is anything else to do to prevent it from happening or to keep ice from building up with consistent sub-zero temperatures and periodic precipitation.

i had debated posting a question on this in January, but it's a design issue and resigned myself to thinking its something i have to watch for. in the coldest temps i held the rear door from opening too high.

this might also be why the rear spoiler design (possibly) allows for more movement - see other threads on this topic?

i have hit my head more than once on a back hatch (our van, the 4R, etc) so not sure i will opt for setting the hatch to 'not fully open'. my forehead will thank me later for that. i'll remember to watch for ice, but somehow forget to watch my head....

With all that in mind (especially hitting your head) does anyone know why that close switch is on the passenger side? I have that same dumb positioning on another SUV. And have smacked my head on both cars during closing.
If you choose to restrict the opening height I guarantee at some point after hitting close you will have a headache.
I cannot fathom any reason to create that hazard.

same, on my 5th gen i had to watch the opening manually as to not hit the garage door when it pivoted out and up, not so much the height. on the 6th gen i am also worried about the pivot out and how high it goes up compared to the 5th gen.

my rear door is closer to the garage door due to space restrictions in my garage since i had to eyeball how far i was from the wall on the front end.

on the 6th gen, since i have the front camera i can scoot up closer to the wall then my 5th gen so i dont have that issue anymore but now i have a height issue with the new 6th gen.

Where is the rear door control on the Limited? I'm a 4Runner newbie coming off years of Chevy Suburbans. I left Chevy when they said they don't make transfer cases for a 2019 Suburban.
My door is now barely lifting up automatically.

Update: I'm a moron. 2 second hold on the rear gate button in the interior after raising it up reset the gate. Now I have to tackle using a hybrid to jumpstart other cars. Never spent more time with an owners manual. Cheers & goodnight.
