While pulling my pants out of the washer I saw the key fob to my brand new Off Road at the bottom of the machine. Seven hours later, it's still working fine. Do you think I'm out of the woods or should I have another one made?

Didn't they give you two? I say let it ride.... see if you get lucky since you have a backup already.

For phones that go in water, I think the recommendation was to put in a bowl of dry rice for a few days.

I too would open it up, inspect, allow to dry with a fan blowing on it.

I recently did this with my 2012 Tundra key less entry and have had zero problems. If it acts up then worry about replacing, just carry your second one for a while.

As others have said you’re likely fine. I’d disassemble and change the battery (it might still corrode). Lightly wipe everything with a tissue and reassemble.

In general for all eletronics… Don’t turn them on if you suspect they are still wet. It can short the IC’s or circuit board. Unplug them or remove the batteries. Dry them out (warmed rice or desiccant packs for a day or two). Then reassemble and hope for the best.

I’ve never done that, but I can’t even count how many times my wife has thrown the TV remote in the washer with the blankets, probably like four times, and I’m surprised it still works. Remote controls have very simple, low-voltage printed circuit boards (PCBs) with widely spaced traces, which makes them less likely to short out from water compared to more complex, miniaturized electronics like smartphones. I’m guessing a key fob is similar, if not the same.
