Radar Detector Mount - Uniden R7 Power supplied via Hardwire Kit

I have a Uniden R7 Radar Detector that I am mounting right below my rearview mirror with a Blendmount. The power is supplied with a hardwire kit that has a mute button. Now, the installation instructions for the hardwire kit say to get power from the fuse box or an ignition source wire. Has anyone done this and do you have any insight? Thanks.

Fish wire through driver's firewall to the engine bay, then into the fuse box. Use a fuse tap, then tap into this fuse:
