(Probably a dumb) question about running the wire for an aftermarket rear camera.

Looking at all the threads I could find, people tend to run the camera wire from the overhead console (at least in the cases using a Dongar, which is what I’ll be using to power it), across the front edge of the windshield, over the A pillar, then back along the passenger or driver side, across the B and C pillars, then back across the rear window to the camera location.

Was curious if anyone - in a model without a sunroof - has tried a straight run with a wire fish tape from the overhead console straight back?

Or is there just too much going on in there for it to make it clean through?

No need, run it directly behind rearview mirror along upper windshield and over the headliner and work your way back from there, along liner, weatherstripping and pillar. Easy peasy and don’t overthink it.

I ran mine through the headliner. I made sure didn’t interfere with airbags. When you get to windows, just pull off weather strip. It goes off and on pretty easy. To mount, I pulled out one of the tabs holding headliner. Under there, there is actually structure for mounting. I shaped some bar stock aluminum and attached. Very simple process. I put mine one tab off center on passenger side. You have to make sure rear windshield cleans that area.

fish through the headliner is the way to go imho, super easy with fish tape

be careful if you fish the edges, there are SRS systems tied in and you don't
want the fish to get stuck on anything and yank it back out and disrupt SRS mounting
or wiring
