Hey!

I wanted to share what I'm putting together on my Cutting Edge, 2026 4Runner SR5 (i-FORCE 2.4L, 4WD, Third-row) and get some feedback on tire choice before I pull the trigger. Going for a clean, drivable truck with the narrow-and-tall "expedition" or "Power Wagon" aesthetic.

Main use case is to drive on the beach to surf and bring my family to collect shells, play in the sand etc. Just picked up this SR5 around two weeks ago. And I've already been scheming by reading build post after build post trying to find a build that is close to what I'd like to do.

CURRENT STATUS
  • 2026 4Runner SR5 (Third-Row) in Cutting Edge.
  • Cross-bars
  • Rear Cargo mat (the lame half-baked kind from Toyota)
  • Picking up Fixed Running Boards from a local dealer on Saturday (will install them myself).
  • Ordered and Received Bilstein 6112 (47-347472, probably circlip position 3 for a 2.0" lift in the front)
  • Ordered and Received Bilstein 6100 (24-347440) to pair with 6112s
  • Ordered and Waiting for Westcott Designs 1" rear pucks for a 0.75" lift in the rear.
  • Stock SR5 17Ă—7 +55mm alloys (no plans to swap, I actually like them)
  • Stock UCA's, would probably get Bilstein UCAs to match the 6112/6100 combo IF THEY MADE THEM.....
  • Stance target is Dead level or a slight rake

WHAT'S LEFT TO DECIDE/WHAT I NEED YOUR HELP WITH

  • Has anyone seen a build where they're running 34"x10.5"R17 Toyo Open Country AT III?
  • Do you think removal of the crash bracket is likely with my proposed build?
  • Do you think this tire size, rim off-set , and lift would have rubbing that needs repining the fender liner?
I've seen Haruharu's Heritage Blue ORP build with his 255/85R17 pizza cutters, and I think he mentions that there was only rubbing on the front mud flaps. Lucky for me I bought a stripped down SR5 without mudflaps so that is not an issue.

Additional context: Before getting this 4Runner to drive on the beach, I've been driving my dad's red 2019 TRD Sport with LT275/65R17 BFG K02s on the beach no problem (As long as I air down to between 20-18 psi and put it in 4H).

That tire is only 10.8" wide and is an E load tire, and works fine, I do have to be cautious not to venture off into the super deep soft stuff but it works. So I'm not concerned about possibly running a 34"x10.5"R17, it has 8" of side wall that will deform plenty when aired down.

I'm looking forward to hearing everyone's perspective, please chime in!

Here's a pic of a 6 gen 4Runner running 35"x11.5"R17 Toyo Open Country AT III

I've honestly never have had issues with the BFG KO2s both sets had over 60k before i changed them, but they were both E rated and definitely could feel it in the drive not so much on my 2500 cummins but in my 1/2 chevy i could feel the stiffness and tire weight. I left Toyo awhile ago and thats how i ended up with BFGs. I wouldn't hesitate putting KO3s D rated not E's on my 4runner.
Beaches along the Texas coast i've never had issues with BGFs in sand and never had to lowered pressure. Toyo AT3s are also E load tires in the size tires your dad has on his 4runner 275/75/R17. You have to go to 265s for a non E rated tire. I really didnt realize the difference between E rated tires and SL tires until i put them on a lighter truck cant imagine what they would feel like on a 4runner.

@AZ Flag Steve Haha great point!
Yea not sure what I meant by it, maybe I like the tall and skinny aggressive tires.

Actually after looking Power wagons back up, realized they lookin like a Prowler and a Willys had a baby. Maybe the right move is to lift a prowler (1000% joking haha)

Thx @jcash25

I appreciate your thoughtful reply. After seeing this video of a lifted 4Runner TRD ORP on 285/70R18 K03s.

I decided to go with 285/75R17 BFG K03s, because they should fit without rubbing and an almost 34" tire works for me. I'll look into getting a lower load tire so that it's a nicer ride for the kids. Thx again !
