Hi all,

I just hit about 300 miles and am just now hearing a new sound.
This happens during acceleration, not when coasting. A/C on or off.
I notice at lower speeds due to no wind. If windows are up, I can not hear it.

Listen close and you will hear it.

Thank you!

I’ve been having the same issue! Have you taken it in to Toyota to get it looked at/found the issue yet?

I have the same on my ORP, it’s going in to the dealer on Tuesday to get looked at along with a loose feeling rattle in my steering column on bumpy roads. Mine’s been happening since the day I got the 4Runner, seems most obvious starting around 15-20MPH, but I can also hear it when coasting. It seems like it happens less after washing the truck or driving in the rain. Also strange that it doesn’t get louder or change pitch the faster you go.

Honestly not hopeful they are going to fix it, it’s so quiet. But once you hear it annoying AF since it never goes away.

Please let us know what they end up saying. Mines pretty slight and I can only hear it with the windows down but once you hear it, it’s annoying af and constant.

Agreed! I'll definitely report back. Keep looking into it on your end too, maybe us end users can at least pinpoint what's causing it.

Ok, took it into the dealer this morning to try and get to the bottom of this. Service manager drove the 4R with me in it to try and see what's going on, and of course it didn't make a peep for the whole 20 minute drive we did. We agreed I should just come back next time it happened. 1 mile from the dealership on my way home it started again so I turned around and went back.

Had the assistant service manager go with me on the second drive, and while the noise was there this time, it was quieter than it has usually been. Unfortunately the service guy said he couldn't hear it, and to be fair it WAS super quiet and I was picking up on it only because I knew what to listen for.

He said his best guess based on the how I described it (doesn't change in pitch or volume with speed, but still cyclical) and what seems to trigger it more is that it's the high powered fuel pump. Supposedly some people are just more susceptible to noise it makes from what they've heard. Because he couldn't hear it, and because it's something that's admittedly super quiet, there's really nothing they can do about it. Told me to wait and see if it gets worse or I can find a way to isolate it more and then try bringing it back.

To be fair, both service guys I drove with were extremely helpful and genuinely believed me and wanted to help. I never felt like I was getting the run around or my concerns were dismissed. Oh, and both service managers also drove 6G 4Runners as their dailies, so they were familiar with the vehicle.

Bummer, but I'll keep trying to pinpoint the issue if I can. I'm an audio engineer by trade, so I'm going to try putting some remote mics under the hood (starting near fuel pump) to try and find the culprit.

Ok, I spent the morning putting some portable mics around the 4R trying to pinpoint the issue, and I'm 95% sure it's coming from my front left brake barely rubbing on the rotor. I have a feeling it's related to the TSB out now for our 4R's, so taking it in next week to have that done to see if it fixes anything.

I know you say u hear it while driving, but it has to be the same noise I'm having, both whole idle and slow speeds. Mine is far louder than yours though.

Only 400 miles on the car, heard it since day one. I posted in a separate thread, but this one seems more appropriate.

Yeah that does sound VERY similar to what I'm hearing. Weird that you can hear it at idle though, mine doesn't really start until 15MPH or so. Waiting for parts for my brake TSB to come in, dealership won't look at this noise further until that's done to rule it out. If you take your's in since it's so easy to reproduce, PLEASE let us know what they say.
