Hi everyone,

Took my 4r in for a 1100 mile oil change at a dealership. Dropped it off and picked it up a few hours later. I went to clean my tires, get the new tire gunk off and noticed what I initially thought was bird droppings on the hood. Attached are the photos. It looks like a coating is peeling. Is this right? The car has 1100 miles on it. Thoughts?

This doesnt look like a scratch. Scratches are usually long and skinny in a general direction. This has no direction, almost perpendicular to the panel, either someone set something on there with great force, or more likely, it looks like some kind of chemical wear. Is it bubbling up around the far edges ? I cant tell, or are those tiny pits of worn clear coat.

I vote some dude spilled some brake fluid over that area. Its hard to prove they did it unless you have before/after pics of being dropped off. Next time could take a video, do a 360 around the car before dropping it off.

The good news is, it looks like the paint is fine, you just need clear coat. But if you dont have the tools and more importantly never done this repair please dont do it. You can seriously mess it up even more.

In the meantime, if it is any chemical, very gently and i mean very gently clean it. Water or water and soap. No rubbing

Thanks for the reply. I cleaned it, originally thinking it was bird droppings. Is this a warranty issue or is it an out of pocket repair?

So I went to the dealer who serviced the truck and the dealer I bought it from. Neither had their body guy on staff today (important note.) Neither could confirm what the problem was and both said they would have a Toyota field rep come out and look at it. On the way home from the purchasing dealer I stopped for gas. A gentleman filling up commented that he liked my truck. I said dealing with issues and showed him the spot. He said hold on a second and went to his glove box and got a bottle of purel. He put some on his fingers wiped the area in question and the mark was gone. He said he had 40 maple trees on his property and the mark was maple trees sap. I thanked him profusely. I called both service managers and the one who did the service I advised to not park any freshly serviced vehicles under the two giant maples next to the service area. Felt stupid but relieved. When I went inside the gas station I bought a travel size bottle of purel and stuck it in the glove box.
