Seriously,
Backing up my small travel trailer has become a nightmare because I cant see the trailer wheels with the door open while I back up to maneuver into tight camp spots.
There has to be a way to override that. I cannot believe anyone at Toyota did that. They test drivers never owned a travel trailer, thats for sure.
Anyone have any knowlege of this.
And please, dont reply "that's a important safety feature that Toyota does not want you to by pass"

I see it all the time at boat ramps. I want to snatch people out of the seat and back it in for them.

Stick your head out the window?
Wrong angle to see trailer wheels. And I’m not 6,6’. To get my head far enough out I can’t reach the pedals.
Anyway, spend some time to help me and find an answer for an overide

I am confused. Are you not able to use your mirrors?

I'm a little confused. Exactly why are you trying to back up with you door open? You said "to see the wheels" but why do you need to see the wheels? Not bashing, just trying to understand. Maybe an aftermarket camera that you could place where you need it to able to see what you want?

I have a very small trailer that is very hard to back up when behind my first Tundra. It's narrower than the truck and even with the tailgate down I still can't see it. I ended up mounting tubes that I slide posts into so I know where the rear corners of the trailer is at. I don't use them now that I can see it with the backup camera my newer Tundra has.

Same. It's not clear at all. Maybe the OP could try explaining again, with more details.

I'm not even sure what "over ride car stop" means. Are you saying the 4runner automatically applies full braking when in reverse with the door (do you mean liftgate or driver's side door) open? Or only when a trailer is attached? Are you talking about the trailer brakes or the 4runner brakes? Or something else entirely? Is there maybe some trailer setting or trailer brake controller setting that just needs adjusting? Since none of us are there watching you do this, as much detail as you can add would be useful.

It happened to me last weekend. Just trying to move a few feet with the door open and it’s just brake. So annoying. I getting Carista for a few things soon.

You might be able to adjust this inside the safety settings. I had the automatic brake going off on me when my bike rack was loaded. So I turn off the PKSB (parking support brake) when transporting bikes. So you may be able to turn off the auto braking feature in your 4runner.

Go under the settings on the your driver h.u.d. behind the steering wheel. If you can turn it off, it'll be there.

To be clear, you had no trailer, you just opened the driver door, put into reverse, and it autobrakes and you can't move until you close the driver door? (I've not tried that yet but surely would some day, so I'm interested)

I think Cloudblazer is probably on to something, re: autobrake setting. But I vaguely recall shutting that setting off on the first day I had the vehicle, and it caused some other annoying popup every time I drove after that so I just re-enabled it.

Yeah you have to put it on park otherwise your can’t do nothing. I means it doesn’t happen everyday but when it does it’s frustrating.

Is the trailer harness hooked up? The harness overrides the parking sensors. It thinks you are backing into something if not hooked up
