Could I trouble you for a direct comment on my replication of your math? When it comes to ~$45k, let's just say I have a case of separation anxiety.

I was able to find a dealer that was willing to match the highest discounts on that csv, but not beat. That might be a clue. SR5s can be had here for ~$3k beneath MSRP, ish.

Only wanting to make sure I'm not getting hosed for a few thousand. That takes me a while to earn!

Nodak, that was really helpful. Thank you for helping me.

As an example, just with rough numbers:

  • Per KBB, an SR5 ice cap with 4x4 and no other options has an invoice of $40799
  • Your options had an average invoice that was 87% of "retail", which I'll read as MSRP. A couple of the dealers at the top of the allocation csv listed above have SR5s with about $2800 worth of port and factory installed options, so I'll guess that their invoice price is ~$2350.
  • TDA + Fuel + Delivery is ~$2210 roughly

So I'd guess that a total invoice price is ~ $45359 an if I can stay out the door beneath or close to such a number, recalculated each time on each specific 4runner I find, that's a way to take a guess as to the floor of a good deal?

The best publically listed discounts off MSRP in that csv tracker for SR5s are just a hare over 5% and within a few hundred of the appropriate calculation done analogously to the example. So I guess those ones seems like a reasonable deal then even without much haggling?

I'm not too worried about giving the dealer $100 extra, but I don't want to give them $1000 extra.
there is a thread i posted with options and invoice vs msrp of those options.

once you have a base invoice price you can figure out the true invoice price.

the only oddball cost you cant figure out is the true TDA and gas surcharge for your region.

DPH is always a set amount across the whole usa, its federally mandated to be a set cost no matter the distance to deliver a vehicle which currently is $1495

so your base is going to be roughly (going with my numbers)
$700 (tda) + $15 (gas rounded up) + $1495 (dph) = $2210

base invoice SR5 in white (white color has a premium color surcharge) = $40,799

so your base invoice will be $43,009

trust me you wont see that number, dealer will add options to bring that price up. and i dont blame them, they want options to help sell it in case you dont want it.

my dealer requires some type of floor mats regardless. i understand and its a loss on my part, but it ensures they can sell it since most customers want some kinda of floor mats from the get go.

i always replace the oem floor mats with either husky, WT or now lasfit.

giving the info away is the easy part, the hard part is finding a decent dealer

Hi Guys,

Just to close the story here, I ended up negociating an offer ~8% under MSRP on a SR5 with 4x4. Only other options were third row seats & floor mats. Including their doc fee, it was ~$3600 off. My guess is that it was ~$500 less than their invoice price. They probably kept some few hundred from a holdback from toyota.

Not sure if that's "the best offer" but that's an offer that I received.

My dealer actually showed me the this info too, thanks! I would have never known what I was looking at if I didn't see your post here. Your comment about never seeing invoice pricing didn't pan out in my case, I got an offer at ~$500 less than invoice. I bet Toyota has a holdback that you can get into a bit. Dealers probably also sometimes have a monthly incentive for hitting a total volume of cars, which means you can score a real deal that's not tied to the pricing of any single car if you hit lucky timing.
