I may come off sounding foolish but I have a TRD sport premium with the power hatch but I didn't think I had the hands-free opening but then I read it came with the power hitch. So here I am standing behind the 4Runner, waving my foot trying to get it to open and nothing happens. Everything is enabled under vehicle settings and I crawled underneath there and I don't even see a sensor. Is hands free opening standard if I have the power hatch?

Should be standard on the premium. I have the ORP and mine has it. Sensor (never looked at it) was located to the right of the hitch

I've definitely got hands-free rear hatch opening on my Trail Hunter, but admit, I looked and still don't know what the sensor looks like. I watched the video on how it works, which helped a bit.

As mentioned in a prior Post 3, here, I suspect the sensor is off-center to the right as that's where my foot seems to work. I estimate I can only get it to open ~50% of the time and did take much practice to get it to open at all. My foot movement needs to be just right; not too fast; not too slow. I believe the foot-opening half luck and half technique.

I've no idea what Post 4 is talking about.

Maybe he's talking the "E" the word limited on the back hatch?

We have this "feature" on our ORP. Went through the same frustrations as you trying to get this to work reliably. I have better things to do than tap-dance near the rear bumper hoping the hatch might decide to open while losing my balance and dumping my groceries.

I disabled said "feature".

Ranks right up there with needing to be close enough to the hatch for it to hit you before it will open while locked. Geesh, either put the FOB sensor at the correct distance or let owners set their own distance.

I ended up disabling mine as well. When I was installing the lock on my bike rack / hitch, I would invariably move my hand under the sensor area and the tailgate would open, usually hitting me in the head

Mine has it - the times I've tried it I've opened it less then 50% to the point where I have found alternative ways to open it 100%

Also disabled mine, doesn’t matter where I kick it never opens. Dog can walk within 5 feet of the back of the truck and it opens every time. 🤪

Mine is off. Tired of getting strange looks dancing around the rear end of the truck at the grocery story.
The feature is only reliable when you are connecting a trailer or trying to connect the safety chains and wiring pigtail.
Both locations require you work on your knees under the bumper.
Then the Beeb Beep and you have to scurry around all the trailer crap to avoid the guillotine.
Awful design.
