I recently discovered a cable loop in the engine compartment which is wrapped in white tape with a tag that suggests it should be cut in the event of a battery fire.

2025 4runner 6th gen Hybrid Disconnect (Wire) for Emergency Responders IMG_0450

The wire is located on the driver side toward the back, just above where the grommet goes through the firewall.

I haven't found any information about it, but presumably if there were a major hybrid battery malfunction or fire, you'd want to cut the wire to disable it.

Anyone know more about it??

Since the battery in the 4Runner is not a lithium ion battery but a nickel metal hydride battery, it's not as much of an issue. You're not going to have thermal runaway on a nickel metal hydride battery like you would on lithium. You never really hear about battery fires with nickel metal hydride. Destroying one of these batteries really doesn't do much but the disconnect would be mostly for a first responder not knowing what they're doing and getting electrocuted.

If your vehicle is in anything more than a fender bender, first responders will likely cut that cable. They do the same on 12 volt systems.

pg 69-76
pg 602 talks about -31F and the hybrid system may shut down due to being to cold
pg 607 talks about how to jump start the 12v battery and the interlock you need to open to the hybrid battery

also the vehicle can do a failsafe lockout of the hybrid system during a crash, it will automatically shut off the fuel pumps and lockout the hybrid power delivery system.

only techstream can disable the internal lockout of the hybrid system
