First 4Runner, I know nothing about roof racks, help please!

I’d like to get crossbars and bike carriers(racks?) to mount three bikes on the roof of my 2026 limited. Is this a bad idea, and on the slim chance it’s not, where should I buy them? We tow a boat, so our old hot hitch rack is useless now

it's not a bad idea at all. Thule, Yakima, Kuat all have
adapters that can fit to the factory crossbars for upright bike hauling

get a little folding plastic stool it works wonders for roof top activities...[though
what I usually do is stand on top of the tire if I need to reach across the roof]

If you want to go for more versatility a full rack is more useful. Sherpa makes a good one and easy install
