Hey all,

I wanted to share some feedback, experience, and a video that might be helpful regarding the bass rattle in the driver side window. I've posted this as a reply in some of the threads but thought it might be helpful as a separate post. Like many have shared that ONE of the issues they are experiencing with their new 4R ($R) is the rattle noise coming from the driver side window.

I experienced the noise shortly after taking possession of the SUV. Since the noise was so obvious I took it back to the dealer about 4 days after receiving the truck. The sales manager confirmed the noise when I played 'Filthy' from JT at about volume 40. Scheduled an appointment for the following day with the service dept - went through the same demo with the service mgr. He heard it too. I asked if I could have the tech working on the truck to video what he found (see attached). It's been a few days of bass bliss in the new Limited Hybrid.

Hope this is helpful.

You say "It's been a few days of bass bliss in the new Limited Hybrid." so that means the issue was solved by the Toyota service center? I didn't catch that in your post.

Thank you so much for sharing a solution! Curious if that video shows the actual foam installation or is this video made prior to adding the foam? ... I'm struggling to see the specific location foam was used.

If you review the end of the clip, as he is shutting the door, you can see the two bolts on the outside of the door frame.

Foam is used on the inside under the bracket attached with the nuts to the exterior bolts.

Ah, I didn't actually watch the video yet that's why it wasn't clear to me what the fix was. Perhaps you can add that detail into your post in case someone can't (or didn't) watch the video. Thanks!

Brought mine in today to get my brakes fix and have this noise and my spolier fixed. I swear it was coming from the seatbelt adjustment area near the drivers ear but i showed them this video and a song to test and bam noise is gone. THIS fixed it thank you.

Regarding the spoiler... was it just the short up and down movement/ slight loose fit? Or something else?

No the two pieces that connect it together the clips are not holding on the left side.

He says he installed some foam somewhere, but I don't see any foam.

And I don't understand what part is actually moving and touching what other part.

He says "this bracket" but the only bracket I see, with the 2 big bolts, looks solid. I guess the window track is maybe unsupported and hits things like that bracket maybe?

bkw777,

From the video I couldn't see the foam under the "bracket" either.

The tech says in the video that it was installed under the bracket inside the door panel that ran near the window track. I don't think the "window track" is unsupported, it just happens to be very close the bolts and bracket. Re "touching": maybe the end of the bolts were close enough to the window rail/ track to cause the vibration (?). Possibly, the foam gave the bolts just enough cushion to stops the bolts from vibrating. It would only occur when I had the volume at 35-40 with heavy bass. Even though they don't touch sound waves can do strange things at certain frequencies. These speculations are simply a guess by me.

I can only report that I have had no issues with the bass rattle since the repair was done (almost a month ago). Others have said they have used the video at the dealership, had the repair done, and it has also resolved the problem.
