OK thanks! Do you know if the dealer has to calibrate them to the vehicle or can we do it ourselves thought the menu system or just driving with them for a few miles?
I took them specifically to Toyota because a tire shop in my area couldn't properly do aftermarket ones with the vehicle itself, so I would assume there's a special tool to add the OEM's to the vehicle and program them properly. Personally, I'd just take it to the dealership and get it done.

Get Toyota TPMS units. If you get aftermarket, they will have to clone them so both wheels use the same ID's so you don't see the warning lights on the dash and incorrect sensor readings. The shops apparently don't have the proper programming tools for these vehicles. The 4runner does have 2 banks for sets, but would be useless if the ID's are cloned and the shop can't do it properly.
You dont need to do any of this though (according the the 4runner manual). The manual says just put them on and the system will learn after driving. Not sure what happened in your case but it shouldn't be this complex, you shouldn't need to clone anything, you want your winters to have their own ids so they get registered as the second set.
