Hey Y'all,

So as you guys may know, the 4Runner Trailhunter has what appears to be a snorkel, but is strictly referred to as a "High-Mount Air Intake." Now, I was thinking on the fact that I really want to have genuine wading capabilities, and not be forced to remove the stock intake. Do y'all think it's possible to mod in the proper sealing to convert it into a true snorkel?

yes the factory snorkel can be wrapped and made water tight up to the
point where you discover you'll need a whole new custom snorkel if you want to wade

and hundreds of dollars of other mods to make the rest of the engine bay and electronics water tight... diff and tranny breathers, evap system, o2 sensors*. wiring harnesses...also don't forget wheel bearings will need regular extra maintenance (disassembly and regrease) or they will destroy themselves over time when the fine silt grit doesn't get cleaned out

*o2 sensor can survive occasional dunks, but it shortens the life of them, as they need to
sample fresh air in order to function. when the membrane is dunked too much, crud will
get in there and reduce accuracy

if you wade you are basically creating a 'flood car' and to keep that thing running long term, it'll need to be in the shop a lot.

Very true. Fording water is much much more than just having a long snorkel. Not that easy 🙂

The front diff and transmission are already vented high in the engine compartment. You'll want to add a breather to the rear diff though. I bought an ARB breather kit for my TH, haven't installed it yet.
