I've got the Wolfbox G900 (writeup here: Mike D G900 install experience) which I think is great but I decided to revert bake to my stock digital rear view mirror and mount the G900 on the dash.
Reasons:
1. I miss the reliability of the Homelink buttons (so much better having them back and not relying on the inconsistent fob that came with my 35 year old garage door opener)
2. I like the performance of the OEM digital mirror a bit better.
- The Wolfbox is brighter and has a much wider field of view (both very good features) but it also creates halos at night that make it hard to see with clarity.
- And it needs to be re-pointed/zoomed in at every turn-on (I hear there might be a software/firmware fix for this but have not taken the time to figure out how to upgrade the firmware).
3. The use of the Wolfbox dashmount solution means I get to use the "rear camera" for another purpose.
I'm looking for the wisdom of the crowd to Identifying the specific other purpose .
Here is where I have the wolfbox G900 positioned: just behind the main 14" screen. This has very slight impact on visibility - mostly just blocks view of hood. (wires will be tucked away once I reposition the "extra" (lower front) and rear cameras.)
The Wolfbox "extra" camera is currently on my front bumper. Per comment and photo here (Camera discussion in "what did you do today" thread) I am going to move it lower - closer to what Archer illustrated in that thread (although TRD PRO and TRD OR bumpers are a bit different).
My question for all is:
Since I do not need the Wolfbox rear camera to be my "rear view mirror" view, where should I mount it/what should I point it toward? I'm interested in seeing/recording the most interesting views when off-road.
Should I aim it just in front or behind one of the tires? Front tire or rear? Should it be a rear view of what I just went over (perhaps mounted next to/below the hitch assembly?). Would an oblique view of either the front or rear wheels be worthwhile? (Something like this angle if I can find a suitable unblocked mounting point?:
Hope you all have some good suggestions. Thanks for any ideas you put forward.
