Buzzing Sound

Had to do some interesting detective work today when one of the kids buzzed by me and said your car is making spaceship noises.
Hold on what are talking about. Too late gone.
There was a fairly loud buzzing sound from the rear left area of the car. Loud enough to be heard 20 or so feet away.
Something like a small air compressor wizzing away.

I called the dealer, I was told it is going through some sort of self check.
Had not been running for 4 or 5 hours.
I guess that's ok but the disturbing part was when he told me that is why the new 4 runners are having battery problems.

evap system does periodic pressure checks when vehicle is sitting unused.

even my 2013 tacoma will test it's evap system middle of the night and I
can hear some whirring.

of course the other noise [a hybrid makes only when moving and electric power only] is the pedestrian alert sound mandated when the ICE is off and electro power is moving vehicle.

Got it, makes sense, the dealer did mention the evap and another system.
Would have liked to check out what that device was but my days rolling around under a car in ice and snow are pretty much gone.

That is normal. Bothered me a bit when we first got our 4Runner but used to hearing it now. At first I thought it might create a battery issue but after leaving it parked in the garage or elsewhere for a couple of week long plus stretches with no issues I no longer worry about it.

Good to know. When I brought it home I spent some time messing with the MMI system.
Several times after a few minutes on acc I received a low battery warning. That is after a 1/2 hour drive home.
Could have been the time from rolling out of the factory to delivery that caused the low battery or the thing was going through a lot of self checks for a month or so.
Anyway that warning no longer shows up.
