I’m also in the San Antonio area. I haven’t been able to find anything local yet but Corpus/Port A isn’t to far if you like driving on the beach.

Welcome to Texas where it is all private land. So far I've been to Hidden Falls and then I went West to New Mexico to hit the Guadalupe Mountains. You can snag the OnX app and start scrolling a direction. There is also a bunch down near Big Bend.

Big Bend is on my list for this fall. I went to the Toyota Jamboree over the weekend at Barnwell Mountain Rec Area and it was a long drive from SA. I didn’t do any crazy trailing but from the videos I saw from others there looks to be a good variety.

There’s DOMO up in Gatesville. Similar to Hidden Falls.

May try GSL Ranch in Kendalia. Not sure how good it is for a 4runner, but there's plenty of offroading. We ride the dirtbikes up there and I see people in ATVs

Went up to Merus last weekend. It’s outside of Amarillo on/in Palo Duro Canyon. It’s a haul up there but they have great trails, guides, courses, events, etc. Did a guided Blue Trail Course and it was awesome - $65 (course + park fee + 4x4 permit -guide tip extra).The guides were Jeff & Shelly Bull - super nice folks and both very knowledgeable about off-road and Palo Duro. The Blue Trails are real intermediate and you’ll find yourself in some challenging spots - which is where you’ll appreciate having a guide. Almost 8 hours on trails then we went out solo that night but stayed on the Green trails since we’re not that familiar with the area yet. Definitely going back. Want to try a Black trail with Jeff. A lot of built Rubicons and Broncos - we were the only 4R out that day but they are having a Toyota Takeover event 1-4 Oct. You can camp there, or there are some cabins both primitive and with amenities.
