Autosocks size for 265/70R18 tires

Autosocks are an approved traction device by the Colorado DOT. That makes them appealing as a back up to good all-weather tires when driving at elevation, especially since the owner's manual recommends against chains for 265/70R18 tires (which I have on my ORP).

I'm seeing conflicting information on which size of Autosocks fit 265/70R18 tires. The Autosocks "size finder" points to model AL64 for 265/70R18, but the official size chart has no entry for that size.

Has anyone purchased and fitted Autosocks for this tire size?

You have Les Schwab tire stores in CO. Take your ride to one of their shops and I'm betting one of their employees can test fit a pair of socks for you check. I too took note of what the manual says. I looked at a pair and did not think they would be up to the task I wanted them for which is deep unplowed snow and icy hills off road. However the Les Schwab employee and I also test fitted a set of chains for my tires which are the same size as yours. Neither one of us could find any reason why they would not work. No possible points of contact with the frame, body or suspension we could see on the rear tires.

You can bypass the chain law by fitting M+S tires with the 3PMSF symbol.

4WD and AWD vehicles may comply using specific winter tires or by using chains/ATDs.

When the Passenger Vehicle Traction Law is in effect, 4WD/AWD vehicles must have one of the following:

• Tire chains for two or more drive tires; or
• An approved ATD for two or more drive tires; or
• Tires with at least 3/16 inch of tread depth that are rated by the manufacturer as:
  • Mountain-snowflake (3PMSF); or
  • M&S / M+S / M/S; or
  • All-weather
