Has anyone done this modification? Any preferred brands? Rago, C4 and Bison Gear all seem to make something for the 6th gen 4runner.

If you search for it there was a few posts where someone installed the Cali Raised panels.

Please be very careful with installing rear molly panels to the inside area of the rear quarter glass area of the 6th Gen 4Runner. Since 4Runner is available with 3rd row option in certain trim, the curtain side airbags extend to the rear quarter panel glasses to protect occupants in 3rd row. Putting any panel in that area will prevent the operation and deployment of the side curtain airbags potentially jeopardizing the safety of second row or even first row occupants if there’s interference in the airbag deployment. See the attached picture which shows airbag coverage at the 3rd row and rear quarter glass area.

If it was me, I will not install any panels in that area.

I had molle panels in my 5th gen 4Runner. After running them for a year to hold my recovery gear, IFAK, etc, I opted to remove them because I didn't use recovery gear many times. I'd say 5%. For daily driving, it's pointless. They rattled alot making noises which annoyed me, they were heavy and took up space. Just throw your gear in the back and remove it when not in use. Unless you're ovelranding every weekend, they're pointless IMO.

I had a shelf in my Bronco and loved it. Split the area about even top/bottom. Wish there was a good option for the 4R there that didn’t require a bunch of side panels.

Is this only true for third row seat models? If there are no third row seats, are there no air bags?

Out of curiosity, which brand of panels did you use?

Installed Victory Panels on my 5th Gen which I loved so installed the 6th Gen version too. The are great. The victory panels do require trimming a bit of plastic though. Can’t speak for the other brands.
