We decided to see how well the 6th Gen tows up in the mountains of AZ this weekend.

Truck specs
2025 Off-Road Premium Gas
285/75R17 Falken Wildpeak AT4s
17” Icon Rebounds
Westcott Sliders
Stock suspension

We loaded up our 2 Dirtbike’s and utility quad on our 7x14 trailer and headed up.
Dirtbikes - 250lbs each
Quad - 1000lbs
Trailer - 1700lbs

Trailer and toys weight about 3200 pounds. And we had roughly 700 pounds in the truck with 3 people and gear.

This thing did amazing. We were able to do the speed limit the entire time averaging 70mph. A few time we hit 4k rpm’s going up the 6-7% grades.

Gas mileage
220 miles round trip
10mpg going up the hill
12mpg going down the hill
16-17mpg without trailer
A lot of this is due to our larger tires

Loading is key.
We usually use our Tundra to pull this trailer and it really doesn’t matter how you load the toys on the trailer but in the 4Runner we ended up trying 2 different ways to see how it did.
Going up we have the quad over the trailer axle. Little fishy at time but all in all the trailer stayed steady. Very little rear end sag this way.
Coming back down we tried the quad in the front to add tongue weight. This made is worse. Trailer pulled straight but steering was a little touchy. Rear sag was slightly more but not bad.

One thing I really did not like was how quiet the motor is. It never really sounds like it’s working that hard.

Also once you plug a trailer in a message will come up on the dash asking to disable your rear sensors. Then once you unplug it will ask you if there is no longer a trailer.

All in all I am very happy with how the 6th gen performed. One of the main reasons we got it was for towing. We have a 30’ camper that our tundra tows and we used to use our 2003 Tacoma single cab to tow a 5x8 trailer with just the quad on it. That little guy would struggle lol. Now we can load everything on the bigger trailer with no worries.

Thanks for sharing your experience and gas mileage stats! Is your ORP hybrid or gas?

I've been trying to dial in my MPG and my gas tank range but I can only get about 220ish miles out of a tank. I also have a ORP in gas, same size 34s and a Peak collar lift. So very similar to you. Doesn't our tachometer read incorrectly now that we have bigger tires? From what I've read is our mileage will read lower than what we're actually driving. The other day my GPS said I had a 171 mile trip but the dash showed i went 162. Also what PSI do you pressure your tires at?

Nice write up. Your trailer tongue weight must have been a little low. Having to much or little tongue weight will drastically influence recovery time. Here is a video that demonstrates it.
Your tongue weight should be 10-15 of GTW (gross trailer weight)

We get about 220-230 a tank. I have tested the speedometer and I am 1mph low at 65.
I run the tires at 34psi right now. Thinking about going down 1 more tho.

Yeah I’m going to keep playing around with it. My next option is putting the quad a little further up in front of the axle and having a bike in front and one behind it.
We usually use our tundra and no matter how you load it it’ll pull straight.

Haha! I like to hear when the motor is doing work. Waiting for carven to come out with an exhaust can hear it!
