Hi Everyone,

I bought a 2026 Toyota 4runner Hybrid and I'm loving it. I've started some simple modifications and will plan to keep this vehicle for 10+ years. But due to the area and increased theft of these cars throughout Southern California, I decided to add the IGLA anti theft system at an authorized Dealer. The purchase was made in early September and had to drive about 140 miles round trip to get this installed.

The installation was done within a 2 hour period and was totally impressed at their customer service. I drove the car back home with no issues. I received the IGLA box with all the accessories (RFID fobs, manual, reset card, etc). Five days later after the install, I tried turning on the car in the morning, low and behold, the car did not accept my code. It didn't even acknowledge it. There was no visual light (hazards) or audio chirp indicating the acceptance of the pin. At first, I thought I was entering the pin sequence too early when turning on the car (double pressing the power button). I tried the sequence a second time after letting it load all the lights on the dashboard and loading all the apps on the media touchreen. Nothing. Nothing happened, I tried various combinations, nothing worked. So I resorted to using the RFID, defeating the purpose of why I initially got the product in the first place. I have yet to install the app by the way.

Now 5 day of it consecutively working after the repair plus 4 days of not working into, I contacted the installer and told them I would go into the shop to have the to inspect the installation. On the morning of driving to the installer (day 10), the pin didn't work in the morning on the way to the installer, so again I resorted to the key fob. I stopped to fuel up, and for some reason I though I would try to enter the pin, and goddamit it worked. Now this became so intermittent. Got to the installer and again it didn't work. I showed them first hand that my pin didnt work. They confirmed the pin didnt work for them either. They then took in the car and a few hours later, they said the car seemed like it needed a new firmware update. They had a the Igla service tech come in and inspect the installation and firmware. When I got the car back I was told the firmware on the igla got updated and that it should work.

Indeed it worked, at least for another 5 days, until it decided to crap out again. I decided to wait a couple of days to see if i could find a pattern, nothing. Nothing seemed obvious. Now again, I contacted the installer, and told him the IGLA started to malfunction again. I will be going back to seem if it's a bad module or installation.

During this whole time, I went into a rabbit hole online to see if any hybrid 4runner owners had similar issues. I found no direct answers.

So I decide to join this forum to see if any hybrid owners have had the same issue.

I also posted a similar post in Reddit to see if I could help identify issues with the help of some people who have this system installed.

As of today the system is intermittent, but I did come up with the following theories:

1. Bad installation- bad grounding possibly.
2. Bad installation- some wire having loose contact and therefore intermittent connection with the canbus. Possibly the wiring is experiencing thermal expansion, losing contact while the cabin gets cold and works when it hot? Note that when It stops working, the dashboard usually says 70 degrees Fahrenheit and when it does work it's above 71 degrees.
3. Bad module- although RFID fobs works, so some type of CANBUS miscommunication. Again thermal expansion, bad or broken board that works while the weather gets hot and stops working when it gets cold.
4. Bad firmware/software programming and installation?

For the igla owners outthere I have a few questions:

How many of you (2026) owners have had some similar issue? I've seen some YouTube videos of some hybrid 4runners running the immobilizer system, but I believe they were 2025 models. Is there a big difference between the 2025 and 2026 hybrid models?

So here I am, lurking and digging deep into canbus and igla information wherever I can to justify keeping the system. I see there are some owners in this forum and wanted to get some opinions on Hybrid issues and solutions you've come across related the IGLA install or ownership.

The fact that I had to go in twice for firmware modifications makes me feel like I'm running a beta program for the company at my expense for a product that may not be ready for the 2026 hybrids.

Nonetheless, I have begun talks with the installer for getting a refund and having it removed. Most likely it might be a bad module, but running the risk that it bricks in the future is what is holding me back from keeping it. Let me know your thoughts.
Thanks.
