Got to check out both side by side and it’s a really interesting comparison since they’re basically the same price (~$63k), but built for completely different buyers.

Performance

  • 4Runner Limited: 2.4L turbo (278 hp / 317 lb-ft)
  • Land Cruiser 1958: Hybrid i-FORCE MAX (326 hp / 465 lb-ft)

Land Cruiser clearly wins on torque and low-end power.

Capability vs Comfort

  • 4Runner: More road-focused, smoother daily driver
  • Land Cruiser: Locking diffs, Crawl Control, more off-road ready
Interior

  • 4Runner: Leather, ventilated seats, bigger screen, more premium feel
  • Land Cruiser: Cloth seats, smaller screen, more basic setup
Practicality

  • 4Runner = optional 3rd row
  • Land Cruiser = 2-row, better for gear/cargo
Quick Take

  • 4Runner Limited: better daily comfort + tech
  • Land Cruiser 1958: more capability + torque

Same price… just depends what you value more.

I also put together a full side-by-side comparison video on YouTube if you want to see both in detail:

Curious what you guys would pick 👍

Thanks for the good video and info.

The 4Runner Limited definitely gets my vote over the LC 250 1958. Probably one of the first comparisons ever where the 4Runner will outlast the Land cruiser in longevity and because of simplicity (limited non-hybrid). This is one of the main reasons that steered me away from the Land Cruiser a year ago and into a 4Runner. I think the Toyota hybrid system is very good, but I just didn’t see much benefit in power vs weight increase and adding additional complexity for future maintenance and repairs.

Love my TRD Off Road iForce Max. It is a welcome torque and mpg improvement over my 5th gen V6. I originally planned to buy a Lexus GX. More $$ and they were getting ADM which I do not pay. Also drove a friends and while nice it did not justify $20k above the 4Runner. The deciding factor between the Land Cruiser. And the 4Runner was the exterior styling. To me the Land Cruiser looks like a wanna be Lexus GX. And while the Lexus GX is a good looking vehicle. The Land Cruiser comes off as dull to me.
