I own both a 25 4Runner SR5 made in Japan and a 25 Tacoma SR5 with a JBL Flex Speaker made in Mexico. I am trying to see if it is possible to add the Flex speaker to the 4Runner and provide power to the speaker for charging etc.
Before all the snarky comments start, I am doing this for my knowledge and yours, and I don't care if it is practical.
I am aware that since the 4Runner SR5 is not offered with the Flex Speaker, and the vehicle is manufactured in Japan, the harness is slightly different, especially since it does not have a JBL system included or even offered in the SR5 from overseas.
So under the dash of both, there are two plugs as circled in the pic of the 4Runner. In Tacoma, there are two plugs, but the white one is plugged into the Flex Speaker Dock and has six or more wires. The 4Runner's white wire has four wires and is not plugged into anything.
My question: Does anyone know what these two plugs are for in the 4Runner (circled), specifically what the four wires do that are in the white plug?
You can add the Flex Speaker with three parts: the JBL speaker, the speaker Dock, and the speaker outer dash trim. $350 plus or minus. Without the JBL system, they will install, but without charging or playing sound. Super easy to install and remove. Theoretically, you could just charge the Flex Speaker and store it in the dock until use, but having the dock charge or play music would be great.
If you all have a wiring diagram or knowledge to share, thank you in advance.
