Hey everyone, I wanted to introduce myself and my business, Iconic Fabrication Offroad.

I’m an engineer and Toyota 4x4 enthusiast, and I started Iconic Fabrication Offroad designing practical parts that solve problems I’ve run into myself. A big focus of the business has become transmission cooling. Transmission cooler kits are by far my best-selling products for the older-generation 4Runners, FJ Cruisers, and GXs.

I recently picked up a 2026 4Runner TRD Off-Road Premium, which I’m using for development and real-world testing of parts for the new generation.

One thing that immediately caught my attention is the factory transmission temperature gauge. It behaves more like a dummy gauge than a true temperature gauge, staying around the middle across a very broad temperature range. By the time it actually tells you the transmission is seriously hot, you’ve already reached temperatures you really don't want to see. The only way to check temperatures is using an OBD Bluetooth monitoring device.

Considering how many discussions there already are about transmission temperatures and transmission-related concerns on these new trucks, I think an auxiliary transmission cooler could end up being a very useful modification—particularly for towing, off-roading, hot weather, or anyone planning to keep their 4Runner for a long time.

Short answer is no. The long answer is the new 4runners come with one of three configurations for "transmission coolers" from the factory. None of them are equivalent to the old style "tow package" aux cooler or aftermarket aux coolers. Toyota equips the new trucks with either:

1) A standard in radiator tiny cooler
2) A standard in radiator tiny cooler with a thermostat on side of transmission
3) A standard in radiator tiny cooler with a small sandwich cooler. (my TRD OR has this)

Yes the front bumper/grill assembly needs to be removed. Once you know how to do it it's really not that bad. I have a video linked on the cooler product page on my website on how to remove this. It's just alot of the same size bolts and push pins.

There are hardlines coming from the transmission and stop beside the motor. You just have to remove one of the short rubber hoses and replace it with a hose going to and from the new cooler. Each hose is only about 3 feet long and easy to access. The kits include the extra hose.

It's most recommended to run the fluid through the existing tiny coolers and the secondarily through the new aux cooler, then back to the trans.
