Ok I decided to take them off. It’s just six 12mm bolts per running board. Seems easy enough to reinstall if I change my mind. I think it looks better with them on but it’s a lot easier to get in and out without them (weird). Maybe I’ll get some low profile rock sliders.

I like the look of the fixed running boards but don't use them and they kind of get in the way of getting in and out of the 4runner. I think they're mounted to the body and not the frame, so I don't know how much protection they'd provide. What do you think...keep them or remove them?

Make sure to test drive one first. I was all set to buy a limited until I drove one...jarring is an understatement. Went with a TRD ORP instead and am quite happy with it. IMO drove a lot better than the limited.
