I’ve been in Colorado for the last 2 weeks and finally got to test my 6g on some bigger climbs. Just as others have experienced, if you try to slowly go up a 3,000’ vertical climb in rwd or 4hi, the auto trans will heat up very quickly. I never let mine overheat, but within a few hundred...
I agree the machine thread bolts look significantly better. Better clearance for sure. When you use them, you’re doubling the thread count, so you’re effectively tapping the nut insert. If you want to remove them and use the factory bolt again, you’d have to get a replacement insert. I guess...
My kits came with all the intended hardware, but I was hesitant to use the machine thread 1.25” bolts they provided. The OEM Toyota fender bolts are a coarse thread, so I just went to Home Depot and got matching 1/4” 1.25 black lag bolts. These matched the Toyota thread perfect, but not the...
Here’s the latest addition. Modular shelf. Easy to remove when more vertical space is required. It’s set back a bit so my Yeti cooler still fits in the back and can open without contacting the shelf.
I swapped the OEM (regular width) mud guards for the Ark Mid. Very happy with the look and wider, higher coverage.
Roughly 2” shorter than OEM so better ground clearance.
I also gained roughly 1” of inner fender clearance with the 275/70/18 tires after removing the Toyota mud guards.
The full...
How much wider is the pro version? I have the regular width and they don’t stop gravel from flinging up onto the side panels (even with sliders/steps) due to inadequate width. They also hang a bit low and have scraped objects off road.
I’m about to install Ark mids today. I actually ordered...
For most people with bigger tires and lifts, it's all about ground clearance. The mid size is still a good compromise because the taller, full length will pose a problem when hitting objects. I know they have a little bit of give and bendability, but my research shows they're still pretty stiff.
I can only speak to the OEM mud guards, but they were a pain in the ass to install with tires on. You have to drill a few holes. I just barely pulled it off with a 90* adapter with the stock tires. Now I up-sized to 275/70/18 and I don't think I'd have room without removing the rear tires.
Got any better pics, maybe from the side with a wider shot? Trying to decide between mid and full. Full looks a bit lower than stock Toyota mud guards. A bit of a concern off road since the Ark's are only slightly bendable.
Looks good. These are the mid-length Ark flaps? I've been having issues with the OEM Toyota mud flaps. Still managing to shoot gravel into my door panels and even up to the roof (4 times so far!). I assume it's the result of the wheels being turned and perhaps no mud flap will truly reduce this...
I agree. You really shouldn’t be required to do any of this. Completely unnecessary to overthink simple mountain climbs most vehicles can do with ease. Let’s hope Toyota finds a fix for you soon.
Just got caught up on all these threads. For the Tacoma, happening on gas and hybrid models. Most people do have bigger tires installed, but at-least one person is running stock tires and having an issue.
Hopefully Toyota takes action to remedy this.
I just put on heavy KO3s. Heading to...
For the first few months, I cursed the dumb Toyota assistant every time I went to long press the steering wheel control and forgot to hold it long enough to activate Siri instead. Toyota really needs an option to just disable that awful assistant forever. Eventually, I trained myself to hold it...
Great video. I was searching for this type of content before I got my vehicle in March. I'm sure a lot of new owners will find this beneficial.
AC tip:
As the summer temps ramped up in Atlanta, I eventually discovered how crippled the front only air conditioning is when you have that switched...
