Can diff lock be added?

Can diff lock be added to a part time system? Are the main components included on the drive train so that it just requires wiring and a switch? Or are they completely different?

I would first identify what type of differential you have. Then dig in deeper and talk to a verified off-road differential Builder that handles Dana and other types of axles.
Working on a differential is heavy lifting and requires specific tools.
Most likely you will have to have that rear end dropped and broken apart to add the internal switch and a different ring gear. Fairly extensive but these newer designed 6g could be different. Just my two cents.

In the previous 3rd, 4th and 5th gens, it required replacing the entire rear axle with one equipped with the diff locker. OR removing the open rear 3rd member, acquiring an OEM 3rd member with the diff locker and correct gearing to match the front diff, and then modifying the axle housing to accept the diff locker equipped 3rd member. That's if you wanted the OEM rear diff locker.

There are aftermarket locking diffs (like the ARB Air-Locker, non-selectable Detroit Locker, etc.) which were available. There are or were also various Limited-Slip differentials available in the aftermarket. I assume those aftermarket diff lockers and Limited-slip diffs are still available for the 6th gen.

From what I understand watching The Tinkerer’s Adventure youtube channel, the differentials are beefier in the OR models - OR, ORP, Pro, Trail.
Those are the only ones that have the locking rear diff so unless you have one of those it is not built in but not used in other models.
