I was initially interested in the factory dash cams, but the $500 price was hard to justify—especially after the salesperson mentioned that the built-in Wi-Fi can interfere with CarPlay. After doing some research, I ended up going with the VIOFO A119 Mini 2. Project Farm has a great dash cam comparison, and there are plenty of other positive reviews out there as well.

One nice feature is that you can disable the Wi-Fi directly with a button on the camera. I also picked up the Dongar Pro Kit for the install, which was quick and straightforward. Overall, I’m really happy with both the installation process and the camera’s performance.

That's the route I took. Just hooked it up a few days ago. Easy install. Total cost around $200 for camera, memory card, and dongle from Amazon. Got mine with the GPS. (Not sure if they all have this.) Video playback looks nice.

I like the voice functionality like "Take photo". Easy hands free operation.

Can the screen be turned off so I won’t be a distraction while I’m driving?

Dutch, the camera I’m installing either turns off display after a certain period of time or you can choose to have it turned off.

I have the same camera in all my work vans and got the dongar to install on the 6G4R. Just wish the Dongar connecting cables were like the Viofo's with the offset end for better concealment of the wiring.

The dash cam hookup only supplies power to the camera when the care is running. I believe it powers up with the screen on and then turns off the screen after a short period of time. You can use verbal commands to turn the display on and off.

With the way I have it mounted on the passenger side (per the picture above), I forget that the camera is even there once I'm driving.

If you also want it for parking security, you'll want the Dongar. That supplies power all the time.

I’m not interested in parking yet. Now I have to figure out rear camera mounting. I’ve seen one technique to create a mounting bracket since you can’t mount to the rear glass. How did you mount rear cam?
