Hey everyone, seems like this is a common point of conversation and I’m looking for some clarification.

My ORP should be delivered this month and I want to upgrade the tires immediately and am debating on wheels as mine won’t have the TRD wheel upgrade.

Tire sizes I’ve seen mentioned with no rubbing
265/70/18
275/70/18
285/65/18
Are those all accurate with no rubbing at full articulation and full turn?

Will each of those fit the OEM wheels and fit in the spare location?

Any info is appreciated!

265 or 275 should be ok.

i get mine tomorrow, pondering on putting better tires vs michellin’s, and putting on 1” spidertrax spacer. Seen some others do, but didnt change the tires.

or go with another 17” set, 25mm offset. Lets see lol.

I’ve been thinking 275 was the way to go. I might get a 1.5 inch leveling lift but would rather not if possible.

I’ve also heard positive offset is necessary if buying wheels. Someone mentioned +20 offset?

I am more than content with the size and look of the 265/70R18 Falken Wildpeak A/T4W that I just put on (but I do have the black TRD wheels). Sure, bigger would look even more aggressive, but I just need functionality primarily in the snow and minor off road while also being quiet on the road. Also do some infrequent towing (3800 lb trailer).

That looks great. Unfortunately, I do really like the black wheels like you have lol. Just means I might have to spend more money.

My issue is I don't think the tires I want come in that size but do come in 275/70/18.

I'm going to answer even tho I put a 3/8" strut spacer on (gives 3/4" front lift to reduce some of the toyota rake) because I think there's a very good chance everything would have still fit.
I just put on 285/70/R18 K03's on the +45 offset 8" wide TRD upgrade wheels. Hasn't had a chance for full articulation yet, but it seems like it'll be ok. Crash plates aren't a problem. I may swap mud flaps (or cut the one section of the front mud flap that sticks further into wheel well) but that would be to create more room in case tires are covered in thick mud.
Couple notes...
- Wildpeak AT4W's are bigger (and heavier) if that's what you're considering.
- I think the +45 offset is part of what made it work. Not sure it would work with a +20 offset, but I don't know that for sure. I also wanted to consider what positive scrub I was creating. I put a chart here earlier showing scrub radius, stance, and actual wheel diameters for a number of options (including all the ones you mention in your original post). Search "Comparison of different wheel and tire size options" if you're interested. Using the +20 TRD Pro wheel creates quite a bit of positive scrub on an ORP.

The 285/70/18 looks great IMO, and with the 45 offset the tires sit right inline with the flares so I'm happy my paint won't take a beating.
The tire shop I went to was happy to work to the right solution. They brought in the 285/70s but were happy to switch to a 275/70 if that's what we decided was needed. I hope most good shops would do the same. There's still not a lot of new 4Runners around so they were happy to get the learning too.

I'm deciding on my spare...also interested if there's any experience in fitting a larger tire in the undermount spare space. There's some room. There's a stop bracket mounted on a cross member that may need to be removed and you wouldn't be able to insert a trailer hitch or bike rack further than the back of the hitch receiver.

If anyone knows more than my research has told me, I'd love the help. I've seen both yes and no answers? I have ordered 285/70r18 ko3s which I intend to mount on my stock ORP wheels (+55mm offset) with no lift. Will this work? Will I need to remove the crash plates? Already removed the mudflaps. Thanks in advance!
