Are you still Doing Rausch Creek on Aug 1?
Yes - am planning to. Just filled out registration form. Am waiting for confirmation from my "boss" that we don't have anything else planned.

Anyone going out this weekend on the 18th or 19th and doing any of the above trails? I am looking at doing Rausch creek Aug. 1 as well not positive yet may be tight sched working out of town and get back Friday evening and it is a 3 hr drive from my area.
Am planning to take my daughter and her boyfriend on an excursion to Bald Mountain on Saturday morning. Was planning an early arrival (8ish) at Coal Rd entry but would delay an hour or two if others would join.

I suspect its still dry enough that I don't need to be too nervous about getting stuck in the mud holes - but would still welcome a winch to come along. Will be using a heavy duty come-along and recovery boards if I do get stuck without a trail partner with a winch.

(Potential) NOVA 4Runner friends: Per entries above, I've got two trips planned and would welcome others to join if interested.

First one is rather short notice: 7/18 (tomorrow) morning ride on Bald Mtn. Meeting location: Intersection of Forest Road, 162 & Coal Rd, Stuarts Draft, VA 24477. North end of the trail as it shows on onX. Big Levels 4X4 Trail - Coal Road Entry. Aiming to be there about 8:30 AM but can flex several hours on start time if others are interested. (DM me)

I'm signed up for the Hard Green and Easy Blue guided ride @ Rausch Creek on 8/1. I got there in <2.5 hours last time from Vienna leaving at 5:15 to be there for the 8:15 meet time. A bit early for some, but really an awesome off-roading venue. And doing the guided tour makes things easy - and no more expensive than not having a guide. Let me know if you might be there. I was the only non-jeep on my last trip and we need to represent:>)

How is Bald Mtn for beginners and a stock SR5? Ive got family up there and could make a trip out of it sometime in the future.

Challenging but very doable for stock SR5 on main trail. Its probably closer to a 4 rating right now than the 5 that onX gives it because the most significant challenge are deep mud holes that are not so deep now given the drought situation. Alternate trail is more challenging - probably a solid 5 for rock ledges, etc.

I'm in central VA at the foot of the blue ridge parkway. I'm interested in checking out some of the trails around here if there's another plan for bald mtn or anything in the future.

If "foot of the Blue Ridge Pkwy" means Waynesboro/Afton where its Skyline Dr. to the north and Blue Ridge Pkwy to the south than you are SO close to Bald Mtn (where I went last week with Rock Doc) and relatively close to Union Springs (where I went yesterday when a golf outing fell through). These are two of the better/fun/challenging trails in VA. And much closer than Potts Mtn Jeep trail with is worth the journey south but requires more planning.

I'll try to remember to post here with some notice but also recommend a couple facebook pages where folks will get together for rides (I connected with a group for a trip to Potts Mtn, for example):
Virginia Off-road Trails
Virginia Off Road 501(c)3

Yesterday at Union Springs (I did this spot both up and down the ledge using the available bypass to turn around.)

Reminder that Rock Doc and I will be doing the the Hard Green and Easy Blue guided ride @ Rausch Creek on 8/1. Would be great to see some other 4Runners there - but it is a trek from central VA.
