HELLO from Pensyltuckey,

I am seriously considering having wool wax (black) applied to the undercarriage of my 2025 Toyota 6th Gen 4Runner.

Have any of the esteemed members of this group had this done?

What did you pay ?

Did the protective layer last?

Did it need to be reapplied?

I use woolwax on my vehicles. I have an applicator that kit that works with an air compressor and touch up the undercarriage each fall before winter. Helped my 2002 4Runner last a combined 21 years in Michigan and Pennsylvania with minimal rust. I think it lasts a lot better than fluid film but I still wouldn't expect more than a year before touching up. Especially if you use automatic car washes with the high pressure underbody rinse. I use a garden hose to rinse off salt in the winter instead since it won't take off the rustproofing. I've also had a much heavier duty grease applied professionally (currently ~$800 for new vehicles at the place I like but it also includes thinner oil on all the interior locations). Even the heavy grease needs a three year touch up (which they do for $50 or less).

I would ask about the cost of annual or biannual touch-ups if you're getting it professionally done since no underbody grease will protect for the life of a vehicle. Or do a DIY annual touch up after the initial professional application. Good luck!

Would one need this in the south east?

I understand Toyota “up’d” the game and included rust seal and protection in thd 2025 4R.

Here in N. E. Pennsylvania rust protection is very important. With the cocktail of hazardous materials that PENNDOT sprays and spreads on the roads its imperative!
