VF Tuner tuned i-Force Max Land Cruiser (same engine as Hybrid 4Runner) dyno results:

And reliability impact is what?????

I am from the camp of “if you want a faster car, buy a different car. The $$$$ you spend to try and make something its not, never work out.

Not taking away your effort and great results, its just I have grown out of it and spent a lot on the way.

Flame me, do I care ?

Nothing is ever 100% reliable, shit can always happen. That beig said, a tune may negatively affect reliability but from what I've seen, that's more so b/c people drive more aggressive/beat the piss out of the car once tuned i.e. WOT pulls all the time.

But even w/o a tune that could cause reliability issues. So what's the real culprit? So long as you're responsible and smart a tune should not cause any issues. However, if a dealer can determine you've flashed your car, say goodbye to your warranty.

While I respect your views on your faster car stance, I'll say, I could've bought a ~$38k Golf R but opted for a $25k Si. I'm now FBO w/ a tune and I'm approaching Golf R #s. So why spend an extra $13k when I did all that for less than 1/2??? Plus I have a car with rock solid reliability and haven't had any issues.

End of the day, if reliability/warranty is a concern don't tune, simple as that. The potential for added stress ain't worth it for some and that's cool. For others, let's rock like Al Bundy. Unleashing more power, increased throttle response, turbo spooling quicker, completely changing the dynamics of the car is well worth it and safe.

Saying you should buy a faster car instead of modifying the one you own is like saying just buy a vehicle with more ground clearance rather than putting a lift on it. That's just silly. That being said the missing piece here is some platforms are built to handle more than others. Some cars are so detuned at this point you can add a couple hundred horsepower to them without the engine having issues and on the other side of that some cars can't handle 75 more without issues. It's just about knowing what you are actually working with and knowing the weak points of the car you are working on.

I'm very interested in seeing how these i force 4runners will end up with some tuning! Definitely following along.

These dyno graphs on all T24A vehicles are really confusing to me. The numbers are either insanely out of this world (i.e. more hp/tq at wheel than advertised crank), or straight up appalling (like here). Doesn't ever seem to be any in-between.
