Hello. Does anyone have a way to track shipping/freight by VIN? I found the ship it was on and monitored that but once it landed I lost it. My dealer is useless…

once it lands, once it leave port for PIO installed items, tracking by rail is sporadic at best. you can get updates via the dealer if they log into dealerdaily website and pull up a pipeline status screen. it will give a rough estimate of last rail location.

if you can get the rail container you can pay for a tracking service, but the cost vs return is not worth it unless you are in the business of doing a lot of rail freight.

what you want to look for is the underlined part with the rail container number.

otherwise, you will have to bug the dealer to pull up pipeline status and either tell you or print a copy of it out for you. and times can vary wildly from estimates pre-filled in in grey. the 2nd to last block can take from 1 day to 30 days since its a 3rd party transport company. they usually wont ground ship a single vehicle to a dealer, they wait until the whole transport carrier is loaded before they do a run to dealer.

your best bet is to just bug a dealer in a nice way, but if you are a one off customer they may just blow you off. for me, buying the last 15 toyota's from them helps.

I also have a long history of purchasing vehicles from them. The problem is the staff changes constantly. I’m dealing with an entitled South African kid who’s more worried about his hair than anything and a new GM.

lol that no one can help you with.

i went thru the same thing with my current dealer, and that forced me to go buy a 2018 tundra from the dealer 100 miles away (that is the nearest toyota dealer to me in ND).

i told them they gave me a raw trade in deal from the manager they had at the time, he short changed me 3k on a trade in. needless to say that manager didnt last long as they lost quite a bit of sales due to him from what i heard later on.

now they have 3 managers and i personally know 2 of the 3 and 1 is a long term one.

outside of that not much anyone can do except let your money talk for you in the future and find someone/dealer elsewhere.

and if the turnover rate is that bad, that says a lot of the management there, just saying. i mean my dealer some people have been there for 20-30 years. and i know several the service managers when they just started and are still there.
