Well, that was strange. I didn't think it would be battery because it is only a month old but I switched the batteries between them and now they BOTH work. Go figure.
Maybe by switching the batteries, you "rebooted" them, and that's why the non-working one started working. Everything is fragile and sucks these days.

You do NOT need connected services for the key fob remote start.

I never made an account, never registered anything, never accepted any terms, never installed the phone app, in fact I even installed the DCM Bypass Kit that physically disconnects the module that does all the telematics, the vehicle has no cell/internet connection of it's own any more, and the key fob remote start still works. (Android auto / Apple carplay still works, gps, phone calls through the vehicle mics, bluetooth, music etc all works.)

It's a basic function the same on all trim levels. I have plain 4wd SR5 myself.

My wife's new 2025 Prius LS (lowest trim level) has the same key fob remote start also, works the same way.

Connected Services just lets you do the internet remote start.
How’s that DCM bypass holding up for you? Seriously considering it here. I’m pretty pro privacy and don’t appreciate Toyota collecting all that data.
