Locking my 4Runner doors while engine is running?

Hi, anyone know if it's possible to lock the truck while the engine is running? I go on roadtrips with my dog a lot and it's frustrating when I need to stop to use the bathroom etc. and need to keep the engine running for the A/C but I can't lock the truck. It was 90° here in Florida yesterday so impossible to just put the windows down. Thanks!

My plan if this is ever needed is to take the key with me lock then car then do a remote start. Either with the app, or the fob by pressing the lock button 3 times, long-pressing it on the 3rd hold.

You can lock it by using the mechanical key in the key fob. You also have to unlock it with the same key. Thinking about trying to have a little sturdier key made just for that purpose. The one in the fob seems like it's made out of sheet metal. This is on a 2026 Platinum so it's the Hybrid model.

Press the lock button on the door while inside...pull the lever to open the door (all doors should have remained locked except the driver door you're getting out of)...lock the door with the hidden mechanical key..please come back here to report. I wish I had my ride with me so I could verify it myself.

That will work although on mine using the mechanical key locks and unlocks all the doors at the same time. Could be how I have it set in the configuration menu

Honda also won't let you lock the doors with the engine running. However, the work around is if you buckle the driver's seatbelt you can lock the doors. Don't know if that trick will work on Toyotas but give it a try.
