I am finally picking up a new 4Runner on Friday, it is a TRD Off Road Hybrid Premium. This process has taken way to long because of deceptive pricing at dealership. The dealer I hoping to use near me never got the 4R in the color and trim I wanted. Sorry for going on a short rant about dealers.
I can’t find anything specific about engine break with the hybrid? I will be traveling about 800 miles to bring the vehicle home other than speed and heat cycling the engine and an oil change as soon as I get home any other suggestions on engine break in?

If you haven't do so already I suggest downloading Toyota's owner's manual in PDF format. 709 pages of riveting entertainment! Note that they have separate manual for hybrid and non-hybrid.

On page 190 it lists their recommended break-in schedule.

To extend the life of the vehicle, observing the following precautions is recommended:

For the first 200 miles (300 km):
  • Avoid sudden stops.

For the first 500 miles (800 km):
  • Do not tow a trailer.

For the first 1000 miles (1600 km):
  • Do not drive at extremely high speeds.
  • Avoid sudden acceleration.
  • Do not drive continuously in low gears.
  • Do not drive at a constant speed for extended periods.
