I have the Platinum model with full time 4wd. It doesn’t have the electric rear locker front or back. Does the ATRAC system make up for that? Thanks!

Here's one video to watch which may explain things regarding ATRAC, along with talk of the other Toyota 4WD methods.
I've not owned an ATRAC equipped Toyota, but it's my understanding the ATRAC equipped vehicles will work very well and do anything or everything most folks will ask of it. I've only had or have a '03 Tacoma TRD Off-Road; '17 Tacoma TRD Off-Road; '25 4Runner Trailhunter; and had a '99 GMC Yukon; also a couple of AWD Honda and Acura suvs.

ATRAC is awesome! No need for a rear locking differential as illustrated by your purchase of the platinum trim; which is an excellent choice! however, having that rear locker gives you better control in most situations and smoother. ATRAC IS REALLY AGGRESSIVE and u need to be very careful when it engages-always use steady and very low throttle..Lockers are better than ATRAC in deep mud & various other situations..although, if you examine the GEAR RATIOS (1st Gear, Final Gear, and the Transfer Case value in Lo range) the 4Runners with PT4WD and FullTime 4WD has a CRAWL RATIO OF 40.6 to 1 at 1700 rpm.

What does that mean? off-road- Bottomline is that if you have TRACTION with your TIRES and your climbing up an incline with a grade of just less than 58% or between 27degree to less than 30 degree incline you should be able to make it up there with a little throttle but not more than a velocity that would push the RPM past 1700..so if you put your RIG in 4Lo, then put it into Drive, it will crawl pretty much over anything including an incline of up to about 15degrees...anything more you have to add just slight throttle but not exceeding 5mph because ATRAC works within those boundaries...

Further, ATRAC WORKS IN 4HI too but less AGGRESSIVELY.. I'm an engineer and i have calculated that ATRAC CAN THEORETICALLY lift or pull approximately a little more than 9200 lbs up a 30 degree incline which is more than twice the weight of the vehicle (4Runner 2025)...Further, ATRAC will send between 75%-95% of the total Peak TORQUE of 317 ft-lb (non-hybird) to only one wheel if its the only wheel with TRACTION..

Finally, once a Rear Locker is engage, it will split the TORQUE (50% to front and 50% to the rear) the rear diff will then evenly split the torque of 50% in the rear to each rear wheel for 25%.. hope that helps..ATRAC will get through almost anything a LOCKER will..but folks with LOCKERS are serious off-roaders and they need them..you purchased a platinum and that FT4WD is great for cemented surfaces...Enjoy

Could you give me a little more detail? 😄. Just joking, awesome answer! I’m used to having rear lockers, so that was my “concern”, if you want to call it that! I was thinking an ORP, but my wife wanted more luxury. I also liked the idea of full time 4wd so if she’s driving in snow or rain, she doesn’t need to worry about what setting to be in. I did tell her that if we bought it, I would immediately put better tires on it. 😄.

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂..thank you..that platinum is super nice..i think it's the 3rd most expensive Trim just behind the TH AND TRD PRO...I purchased the 2025 SR5 4R w/PT4WD...i'm at the PHEASANT LEVEL..😂😂😂..however, i modified my rig...here are some pictures..1.5 inch leveling kit, front, rear diff, and transfer case skid plates installed, removed the predator steps and placed oem rock sliders & front tow hooks, removed all of the 245 70R17 tires and placed 285 70 R17, and Purchased a full spare with 285's...also, i installed front camera so i can see what i'm crawling over. then, i removed all the oem interior mats and purchased LASFIT..and Finally, i installed leather seat covers from a 3rd party that matches the leather in ORP..black..I also removed the SR5 emblem..lol..
