So you kinda have to get whatever in a Toyota because there is no custom orders. My TRD off road premium had the black out package, which I really am not fond of. But it had a bunch of options I did want so I bought it. (BTW, to get get a trim and color that was close to what I wanted I flew from MN to TX because no dealerships are doing trades on these and there was nothing available in the 4 states around me. I found exactly what I wanted in Corpus Christi TX. $180 plane ticket and one night hotel stay and I drove it home.
Not sure if many people realize that is a option to get the color and trim you want rather than just accepting whatever the local dealers have..
So I really wanted my front grill emblem to be chrome. I seriously hated that black logo. Just me I guess.
I took a thin steel tool, actually a 6" machinists scale, and carefully pried out the black logo. Kinda worked at it slowly but it finally popped off. I Did not break any tabs.
Surprise!! By looking at it I could tell they had covered a chrome logo in a thick black vinyl. BY using a paint stripper heat gun, careful to not get it too hot, and working carefully, I had that vinyl overlay off in about 15 min. It was on with some really sticky gunk so it took a bit of patience. Once the black overlay was off (and ruined in the process , but I dont care) I cleaned off any residual adhesive off the chrome logo with acetone and slapped it back in the grill, Very nice!
