Doohickey to the right of the gear shifter, and under the handle

There is a hook shaped thing just under the front side of the grab bar, to the right of the gear selector. Does it have a purpose?

It's great for keeping the bag of take-out from tipping over on the way home.

I also hang one of those collapsible trash cans from it sometimes too.
