Does anyone know when the Tahara plant will start making the 2027 models?

August 6th production restarted

The plant makes more than just 4Runners. When they started production back up it was very limited at first and is slowly going back to full production speed. Have they started making 4Runners at the plant? If so which models? I know I haven't been given a date yet as to when a pro that matches the few wants I requested hasn't been slated to be started. It's possible that 1000s of people have put deposits down on Pros and I'm just at the bottom of the list.

production of 4runner trim is based on a computer algorithm. they dont save pro's to the end of a model year as someone posted.

overall in a model year use a bell curve to produce trims. the trims in bold are usually the main bulk of production, probably around 60-70% of trims made with the rest taking up the remaining production combined.

I'm not in a big hurry so waiting o get a 27 isn't a bad thing. Obviously the resale value will be better. Was your dealer a large or small dealer? My guess is a large dealer is more likely to get allocation sooner. It also makes them easier able to do a trade with another dealer. The dealer that might be getting what you want will most likely want something of equal value in return. A high volume sales dealership is more likely to have the 'bait' needed. They may even have a bit of pull to get Toyota do move them up the list.

Mine was a pretty big dealer in Denver area. They originally told us 3 months and well it will be a year soon. I think we had 2 pros ahead of us when we ordered ours. I am not sure how but the algorithm also figures in color somehow. We were told we could get a pro sooner if we were open to any color. We originally ordered an Underground. At this point we assume we will end up with a 27 as well. We tried calling dealers that were on the allocation spreadsheet that had a pro that we wanted but even when they didnt say dealer hold they were always presold.

once i got home i was able to combine the gas/hybrid data into a big table and here are the numbers as of 31-aug-26 for those geez whiz people ... i'll add the pivot table data at the end

TRD Off Road/Prem = 4081 vehicles 34.76% (funny fact, the prem hybrid is 2200 vs the gas 1503)
SR5 4wd/2wd = 2781 vehicles 23.69% (only 26 x 2wd)
Limited = 1612 vehicles 13.73% (7 x 2wd, 1021 x hybrid 4wd, 583 x gas 4wd)
TRD Sport/Prem = 1450 vehicles 12.35% (4 x 2wd prem, 7 x 2wd sports, 1116 x 4wd prem vs 323 x 4wd sport)
TRD Pro = 774 vehicles 6.59%
Platinum = 581 vehicles 4.95%
Trailhunter = 460 vehicles 3.92%

The SR5 IMO is so Toyota can make it look like the 4Runner isn't that expensive. A dealer can list it for under $50k to attract buyers onto the lot. Then when a person shows up the salesmen can see if they can get you to move up a trim level or two. Some will be happy with the SR5 but I suspect a lot of buyers will step up to the ORP. The trims above it are more specialty trims.

The platinum and limited are for the people who just want a more high end vehicle but don't plan on using to go off road. That's why it has AWD. Back in the day they would have been the person who wouldn't even think about buying a stick. Just put it in drive and go.

The Pro and the trail hunter are for the person who wants to have something custom but doesn't want to go through the work of buying individual parts and the labor needed. Toyota has come up with a couple options that has some of the more desirable parts already installed. It's not for the guy who wants to install a lift for example. It's also for the guy who just likes t buy the most expensive version of a vehicle even if they will never use the extras.

I'm going for the pro because most of the extras are things I will use. I think I could save a couple bucks by picking and choosing the things I want but then I would be selling the extra parts (kind of like me telling the dealer absolutely no roof rack). I don't need more stuff hanging around the house I'll never use and selling stuff is a pain where I live.

I agree. My comments was about what Toyota wants to sell, not what people can make due with. Back in the 80s you could buy a Toyota pickup without AC, power steering, or even a clock (because the cheap radio didn't have one). Even the radio might have been optional. They were one of the most capable trucks made at the time. I can even remember dealers lots full of the basic model. $5995 got you a brand new Toyota. I don't think Toyota could produce them fast enough. People would buy them, replace the leaf springs (or add blocks)/ larger tires and a roll bar and have something that could go almost anywhere.

But then came the people who wanted more. Back then an automatic was very rare. Power windows, a tach, and even vent windows were luxury items. But more and more people wanted them. They wanted a better ride so we got independent front suspension. Today a basic Toyota Tacoma/ 4Runner would have been far more than the top of the line version you could buy. It's a shame in some ways. My first 4Runner was a 2dr with the removable top (like a Blazer). But it was big, heavy, and hard to remove. So it's no longer an option. Even the 2dr versions are long gone. I don't need 4 doors. But what Toyota does is what they think will make them the most money.

oooo the old 22-R engine (the better version was the 22-RE)

the 22-R was the better engine if you worked on it youself. the 22-RE was better if you had no mechanical background.
