Does all light bar wiring get routed on the side of everyone windshield?

I just noticed after watching a video of someone installing a Diode Dynamic Light Bar that they had the wire running alongside of the windshield. I started to look at everyone else’s picture that had light bars and I feel like I also see the wire run along side of the windshield, either the wire itself or inside some black channel to make it look more natural.

So is that the only way to run the wires? At least on the 6th Gen 4runners. Can’t believe i never noticed it haha
