I have been weighing a roof rack and ladder, not so much to haul gear, but to use as an occasional standing platform for photography both during work engagements and for personal projects where some additional height is required. I’m curious if anyone here has ever used them in such a way and have thoughts/impressions. In the past I’ve stood on bare roofs (obv not ideal), shot through moonroof’s while standing on the center console, etc. If I do go this route, I’d likely install some adhesive grip tape on the cross rails. Any thoughts would be appreciated!

I used my Sherpa full rack on my 21 for a hunting platform. Cut some 3/8" plywood into couple feet sections so I could put it in the back easily. Used small c clamps in the field to keep it from moving around in the field when on it. Built a standoff that hooked on the side rail I could lean a collapsible RV ladder against it and not hit the body climbing up and down. Worked great. Didn't want a ladder on the tailgate

Thanks for the response! I think I’m leaning in the general direction too after realizing I’d rather not have the ladder give that it might interfere with my bike rack and things. Plus since I’ll only want the ability to stand up there occasionally, hacking together some sort of platform doesn’t seem that challenging.
