Shifting gears manually, what gear the 4runners start in auto mode?

I noticed that when I start from parked and switch to manual gear change my 2025 gas SR5 indicates that I am in the third gear. I have to push the lever back a couple times to get into first. Is the car programmed to automatically start in the 3rd? Is it possible to reprogram it to start in 1st? I am getting a hard shift bump when starting uphill in automatic, especially loaded, maybe the transmission shifts down when it experiences the load? Maybe someone who drives shifting manually can comment on the experience with manual shifter system?

Sequential shift mode shows you the Maximum gear it will reach,
not always the gear you happen to be in at any one time.

it does start in 1st, the display shows the maximum it will choose

if you want more hassle but more control, tap it down to show 1 in the
display it will remain in 1st until you shift up. w/o paddles this is a hassle

• At a dead stop: The transmission will still start in 1st gear.
• While accelerating: The vehicle will shift sequentially through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear

Even in Sequential mode, the computer will automatically
override your choice to protect the engine

i think in eco mode or is it snow mode, it will start in 2nd gear ???

i rarely use manual mode, i have learned to feather the pedal enough to tame the turbo boost doing my work day exit ramp from base, its taken a while to make it a muscle memory somewhat.
