I don't think the dealer will do much beside putting these plastic things back on. I bought for now a 20 pack of these plastic disc for $10 on eBay. I may live with that for a while but if it gets bad again then I buy some flange nuts and call it a day. Simple fix.
I personally never have luck...
I think tighten them will help for a while (my 4Runner was quiet all day today). Probably longer term fix is to get real flange nuts. These current plastic discs are cheap and rattle loose over time
Looks like these are the (part #57423-26010) Clip
The silver flange nut appears to be part #90178-06026. Gemini says it's a M6x1.0 but not sure if this is correct or not.
Good news. I think I found the root-cause of the issue. It's the 'plastic/foam' acoustic shield that sits on top of the firewall.
I was tapping around everywhere in the engine bay and the rattle was awful when I hit it. Looked close and many washer nuts missing (I at least found 3 but there...
I played around with the acoustic hood liner incl. windshield wiper fluid hose and tried to dampen it with sticky automotive acoustic mat but it doesn't make the difference. Also tried to remove the triangle piece of plastic near the A-pillar: rattle still audible while driving.
I think it must...
My acoustic hood liner makes a lot of noise. So could be related. I'm thinking to remove the liner to see if it makes a difference or not. Just have to be carful not to break the clips.
I'm dreading to take of the door panel off but I rather do it vs the dealer. But it's quite possible that the rattle is actually coming from the door and not the dash (even if it sounds like it comes from the front).
Any updates on this one? I have the exact same issue when accelerating. I tried the fender thing but this didn't work. it's sound like from below the dashboard but could also be from the A-Pillar or front of driver side door.
ChatGPT gave some good ideas to check (I like the A/C check):
1. A/C compressor load test
Since it's hot and you're running A/C:
Try this experiment:
Drive until the noise appears.
Turn A/C completely OFF.
Drive another 2-3 minutes.
Then accelerate several times.
If the noise changes...
Thanks for the reply. Mine appears to be slightly different. E.g. mine creak noise is only noticeable while accelerating. No when coasting or even braking.
Hi
I have the iForce Max Premium TRD Off-Road and noticed when I accelerate from low speed I hear some type of plastic creak noise (0-40mph maybe).
First I thought some plastic piece has too much play but I can't pin point it do anything inside the interior. I already tried the wheel well...
I just ordered a the TRD 18-In. Flat Black Alloy Wheel (PTR56-35242-F1) set since the price right now is very good.
I would like to make my regular TRD Off-Road wheel (the one with the silver ring) to be my winter tire combo.
Question:
What do I do about the valve stem?
Do you have a link or...
