Dash indicator will be bogus initially, probably from the initial dealer idling, moving in parking lots, et cetera. I reset it after a while it is now much more accurate to my calculated values. I have always calculated mileage every tank for all vehicles, that way I can track it and see if...
Given that I have only had my 4Runner for a month or so, and I currently live in Southern California where it never rains, I have not used the rear wiper yet. However, I have rarely found it all that necessary in other vehicles. I have a Toyota Sienna (replaced by the 4Runner; it will go within...
I have (although have not installed yet) ditch lights. If you ever want to off-road at night they are useful to illuminate beside/in front of you, especially when about to turn. I purchased some inexpensive ones from Amazon (Nilight brand) that seem to get good reviews--much less expensive than...
Something to consider--pistons will probably eventually fail and need to be replaced--hold up bars will not likely fail. IMO, the factory bar is a better, safer choice (and free!). Pistons are nice in that they are more out of the way, but I guess I never found that to be a problem.
I had an...
I wanted the brake controller, but was not critical and I took an available model that had everything I wanted minus that and the skid plates (which I can easily add later). Not sure even if I will need the brake controller, but might in the future. I was not aware of the digital mirror until...
I agree it is less than ideal...although the ability to check if the vehicle is locked or windows are open is useful (and to correct it remotely). Personally I am not fond of remote start...seems very dangerous to me--for example, if the vehicle is in a closed area (garage, et cetera). OK, could...
I will have to check mine! My plan is to leave it on until I get to an off-road situation where it would be a problem--make sure I have a ratchet (maybe battery one for speed) with me and remove until I need to get back on the high-speed road, the reinstall it. Solves both problems--potential...
Putting in neutral: Yes, I have heard (although I would not say from a definitive source) that modern engines cut off fuel flow in these cases. It makes a lot of sense to me though--fuel delivery is now electronically controlled, so no reason not to do that.
I have ORP hybird, and I have not...
Probably not the best answer, but if needed you could 3D print them (or have a friend with a printer do it)--but make sure you /he/she use a UV stable plastic (ASA is probably the best), as many are not and will not last long.
Oh, one more thing nice about the hybrid...instead of 400W 110V inverter that runs off the small 12V starter battery, you get a 2400W inverter that runs off the hybrid system--so much bigger battery, and engine runs as needed to keep it charged.
@Headfuel Nice dogs, I have Malamutes myself :-).
I recently purchased the ORP hybrid. I struggled with the same things you have, although I did not seriously consider the Trailhunter or Pro (mostly based on the additional cost and not really needing that extra). I was also considering the Ford...
Hi Pracis (we have the same first name!), I originally was just going to get the base TRD Off Road, but ended up with the Premium. Although it cost, well, a premium, I decided it really did add some great features and I am glad I did. Like you I tend to keep my cars a long time (my first car was...
I strongly considered the Bronco. I used to have a 1998 Ford Explorer, which I was very happy with (and had no problems). The Bronco is probably a bit more off-road capable, but in reality probably not much--especially if you know what you are doing. 4Runner is quieter, and I think a nicer...
Hi all, new member here. Just got a 2025 4Runner Off Road Premium a few weeks ago. Already have taken it on a (mild) off-road jaunt (just a short, local one). It has been quite a while since I had a working off-road capable vehicle, so this is a nice upgrade! I do not plan any major upgrades...
