Actually if my hybrid stops working I may be dead in the water. Reason being, I don't have the AUX switches which means no alternator which means no-go w/o hybrid working. If this is wrong someone please correct me.
I live in Denver metro where dealers are getting many thousand $$ "additional dealer markup". So I was thrilled to be able to pay "only" MSRP by reserving my TRD off-road in Laramie, WY and taking a bus ($35) to pick it up. Good, honest dealership in Laramie too.
I paid the extra $2K for the hybrid option (TRD off-road). Well worth it. Added torque to already awesome getup and go of the turbo engine is great. Substantially better in-town mileage also adds to value. One big plus I hadn't thought of is how the gas engine turns off when not needed (adds to...
No harnesses on my vanilla off-road. The service dept. told me they thought it had them but it turned out it did not. They were nice enough to install at the quoted price, but it took an extra hour or two of labor to install the brake controller.
My dealer installed a Redarc trailer brake controller on my '25 off-road (vanilla, not off-road pro). $670 installed, works great. Page 429 of the manual says: "Use of a third-party trailer brake controller along with the Toyota Genuine Trailer Brake Controller [...] is not recommended". Well...
Thanks for the responses. Yes my guess was the A/C is powered by the hybrid battery. krzman mentioned the alternator for the non-hybrid. Which brings up the question, does the hybrid variant even HAVE an alternator? If so why does it need it? My understanding (though possibly wrong) has been...
The A/C seems to still work even when the engine decides to shut down e.g. at a traffic light. So its power source must be battery rather than belt-driven. But which battery, 12-volt or hybrid?
I live in a mountainous area so often need engine braking on steep downhills in my '25 off-road hybrid. Configuring via Tow/Haul mode or choosing a max gear in s+/-, the instantaneous mpg meter drops significantly from 60 (max) down to something like 30 or maybe 40. This indicates to me that...
