I'd like more options as well, but even more I want the names to actually include what color it _is_ -- red, blue, green, grey, white, etc. -- in all cases.
Something between "light trails" and "overlanding"/"rock crawling". Probably no mods and mainly my daily driver, I have a very short commute to work. But we enjoy getting out into the desert here in the southwest, and want to know that our vehicle can take us anywhere we want to explore.
My wife...
Nice.
We're in Phoenix, so tint is important, but one of the issues we have with our current 2010, is that a previous owner put on tinting which makes driving at night hazardous, so we would not go with the darkest available.
For the hybrid mostly. And our 2010 SR5 is getting old. More oomph would be good.
What I'd really prefer is the 3rd gen body style with modern tech. The 4Runner has bulked up and I don't like it. Our 1997 SR5 was awesome, but it began to require too much maintenance. I get jealous when I see a...
I choose to have a moonroof partly because it gives me (as the driver) an extra inch or so of headroom.
Here in the desert, it's good to leave the moonroof cracked open while parked.
We had 1997 4Runner with a moonroof for seventeen years, now we have a 2010, never had a leak in either.
I'd be concerned about departure angle as well. And I don't think the spare should be visible under there.
Having said that... I was behind a 4Runner the other day which had its spare tire mounted to an after-market swing-out system -- bumper-mounted I expect (after-marker bumper as well?)...
I would consider only the hybrid. If you don't want the hybrid, then stick with a 5th generation. Why get a gas-only 6th generation, at least before they've been out a few years?
I mostly commute in my 4Runner (and it's a very short commute), but I like the ability to do some fairly serious...
Having had an electronic key destroyed by a rogue wave at the beach, I very much prefer a plain metal key.
I also didn't like that my 2010 4Runner has no keyhole on the passenger side.
Not a fan of push-button start either.

I miss my 1997 4Runner SR5. I have a 2010 SR5 now and it's just not the same.
They have to get the size back down.
And it looks to me like the spare tire is reducing ground clearance by a couple of inches as well.
