All good here. The only glitches are with the infotainment system. Sometimes forgets my phone and other random occurrences. Apparently software isn’t Toyota’s forte. Hopefully future updates will polish that. Otherwise this is mechanically solid truck. Well built for off and on road driving...
There is a solid science behind it. Watch the video. If the engine of my car runs better on premium, and is designed for premium fuel to begin with as is the case with Toyota 2.4 Turbo, I will run it on premium. Everyone else is free to do as they want.
The point is, this is the same engine in the Land Cruiser and the 4Runner we are talking about. Works objectively better with premium gas, but whoever wants to save on gas and spend later on engine repairs is free to do so. It is a free country after all and we have the freedom to spend our...
“Equates to a Better Response from the Engine”… I like the way you’re describing it.
But isn’t it what we all want? The engines of our trucks to respond better… versus to being retarded…
I would love to spend less at the pump, but what infuriates me is that Toyota is not honest with us. They...
I wish the LC came with the 2.8 turbo diesel, which it comes with for the rest of the world. Then I’d buy it right away. I just don’t care about the afterthought LC250 hybrid is. Therefore IMO, the 4R ORP gas only is the best we can get here in North America.
Same engine. Supposedly the 4R is been tuned to use regular, but as you noted the high compression ratio calls for a premium fuel. And I am experiencing the difference with a better performance running on premium gas.
IMHO this is a marketing strategy where Toyota wants to sell the 4Runner to...
IMO the gas only version is all you need. The hybrid is a good idea but the type of execution is poor. First the extra power is not enough to give you a significant advantage. This is because of the extra weight of the battery and the hybrid components. The powertrain has to burn more gas and...
All around the world the Land Cruiser 250 Prado is offered with the excellent 2.8L Turbo Diesel inline four engine. Only in North America we have both in the Land Cruiser and the 4Runner (different flavor of the same platform) the 2.4 turbo gas and the hybrid. It would have been great if we had...
It looks like the Toyota fuel rating (87) for the 4Runner is a marketing move to appeal to more cost conscious customers. This engine is apparently originally designed to use premium gas. All Lexus and Toyota models equipped with the 2.4 Turbo four so far, recommend premium. As far as the oil...
Our '25 4Runners are tuned to run on a regular gas. The Land Cruiser, which has the same engine requires premium. I decided to make a comparison. Last week went to Costco and filled up with Premium gas. After driving the car for a few days, noticed two things:
First the engine had more power...
First oil change at 650 miles. Used both OEM Toyota filter and oil. Toyota oil is formulated by Exxon Mobil in the US and has high Molybdenum content, which is beneficial for a new engine. Will do another change at 2500 miles and then at 5000 free by Toyota. After, since it is turbo, every...
Moonroofs unfortunately rattle and leak afterwards. The reason I got mine without one. My other cars all have moonroofs and I don't remember when was the last time using one...
